How many hours of training does the CCMP require?

The CCMP requires 21 hours of change management training aligned with the Standard for Change Management©, completed in the past 7 years, according to the ACMP eligibility page read on 7 October 2026. The hours come on top of work experience, which is a separate requirement.

That experience is either 4,200 hours (about three years) with a 4-year degree or an international equivalent, or 7,000 hours (about five years) with secondary education. Experience hours carry no time limit. Only the training has the 7-year window, so a course taken in 2021 still counts for an application filed in 2026, while one from 2017 does not.

Which courses count: instructor, Standard, format

A course counts when an instructor is present, in a classroom or online, and when its content is aligned with the Standard for Change Management©. The ACMP training FAQ states both conditions, as read on 7 October 2026.

Blended formats are accepted. A course can mix self-study with instructor-led portions, as long as an instructor takes part somewhere in the programme. Courses from a Qualified Education Provider™ are pre-qualified, which means the ACMP has already evaluated their objectives, methods and instructors. Any other instructor-led training aligned with the Standard© may also be submitted, with the paperwork described in the next section.

The seven-year window deserves a calendar check. Write down the completion date of each course in your file, and count seven years back from the day you intend to apply. A person who trained early in a career and applies after a long gap may have to retake a course, even with plenty of experience hours.

For a first credential and no wish to argue a case with the ACMP, we recommend choosing a QEP course. The decision is yours, and it saves one round of documentation.

Documenting a course that is not pre-qualified

For a course that is not pre-qualified, you submit its objectives, its outline, its dates, its duration and the portion led by an instructor, all documented in English. The ACMP training FAQ lists these items as of 7 October 2026.

Imagine Lena, a project manager in Rotterdam (a fictional profile). She took a three-day workshop in 2023 from a local trainer who followed the Standard. To submit it she would need the trainer’s written objectives, a day-by-day outline, the exact dates, the total hours and a statement of how many of them were live. If the workshop material is in Dutch, she must produce an English version. A QEP course removes most of this, since the evaluation has already happened.

Where to get the 21 hours with a QEP course

Several providers sell 21-hour QEP courses, and the public registry at acmp.learningbuilder.com lets you search them by keyword, setting, hours, language, price range and provider. The comparison of CCMP exam prep courses on this site goes through the main options. This site follows Leanova Academy, so we describe its courses below with facts only.

Leanova Academy is an official ACMP® QEP™ and a training provider, not the ACMP, which alone awards the CCMP. Leanova Academy appears among the QEP providers displayed on the ACMP’s QEP page (acmpglobal.org/page/qep, seen on 7 October 2026), with course codes Q000607 and following. On 7 October 2026 the self-paced course CCMP Certification Exam Prep is 21 hours, code Q000607, with 45 modules, one year of access, English with subtitles, at US$595 (list price US$995). According to the course syllabus (May 2026 edition), the certificate of completion carries the QEP code Q000607 and the 21 hours, which serves as evidence in the CCMP application file; the course certificate is described in a separate article. The live version, CCMP Exam Prep Live Online, is also 21 hours (code Q000609) and costs US$795 (list price US$1,880). It runs over three live days, 8:30 to 17:00 Eastern Time, on Teams or Google Meet, and includes the self-paced course. The ACMP registry lists Leanova’s 21-hour course as QEP Live Online (Microsoft Teams, in English, Spanish and French) and as QEP Self-Paced/Blended, seen on 7 October 2026.

Two more facts help a buyer compare. Leanova offers a 14-day money-back guarantee, and its Trustpilot score was 4.7 out of 5 from 39 reviews on 7 October 2026. Those numbers describe the provider, and the ACMP evaluates the course content on its own criteria: documented objectives, adult learning methods, qualified instructors and accurate advertising.

Can hours from several courses add up, and what falls outside the rule?

The ACMP pages we read on 7 October 2026 do not say whether several shorter courses can be added to reach 21 hours, so we cannot promise that they can. Ask the ACMP before you buy, and keep each course’s duration and dates in your file.

What the rule does settle is the instructor. A book, a recorded lecture series with no instructor involvement or a webinar nobody leads falls outside the requirement as the FAQ describes it. Reading is useful for the exam, and it counts toward renewal units later, but it is not the 21 hours. The same goes for a course aligned with another method but not with the Standard©.

Once the hours are secured, the next step is the exam itself. The format, questions and pass mark of the CCMP exam are covered in a separate article, and a six-week study plan turns the course content into a schedule. The exam has 150 multiple-choice questions over three hours, as published on 7 October 2026. Plan the exam booking only after the application is accepted, since the retake allowance of up to two attempts runs from that acceptance and lasts one year.
