Which route gives a credential awarded by an independent body?

The CCMP and the APMG exams both end in an assessment, while the Prosci programme ends in a certificate tied to its own method. The CCMP is awarded by the ACMP, the APMG exams by APMG International, and Prosci is a methodology and training company, not a credential-awarding body.

We compared the three on 7 October 2026, using the official pages of each organisation. The facts below come from the ACMP eligibility page, from prosci.com and from apmg-international.com. Where a page does not publish a figure, we say so rather than guess. The ACMP, for instance, publishes no pass rate and no count of CCMP holders.

This site follows Leanova Academy, an official ACMP QEP, so you should read the Leanova parts with that in mind. Leanova is a training provider. It does not award the CCMP.

The CCMP route: requirements, exam and renewal

Badge CCMP®, Certified Change Management Professional (ACMP)

The CCMP requires a four-year degree and 4,200 hours of change management experience, or secondary education and 7,000 hours, plus 21 hours of aligned training taken in the past seven years.

The experience hours have no time limit. Only the training has the seven-year window. According to the ACMP training FAQ, an instructor must be present, in a classroom or online, and blended formats are accepted. QEP courses are pre-qualified. Any other instructor-led training can be submitted with its objectives, outline, dates and duration, documented in English.

The exam has 150 multiple-choice questions over three hours, taken with online proctoring by Kryterion or at a Kryterion test centre. You get up to three attempts within a year of application acceptance, and a retake costs US$300 for members or US$375 for non-members. The credential lasts three years and renewal asks for 60 PDUs and US$100 (member) or US$150 (non-member).

The Prosci programme: duration, price and what is included

Badge Prosci Certified Change Practitioner

Prosci gives a Prosci Certified Change Practitioner credential after a three-day intensive, at US$4,500 online or US$4,850 in person on 7 October 2026.

The programme runs three to five days depending on format. Online, it means about eight hours a day plus self-study. The price includes a methodology workbook, a 90-day Prosci membership trial and a one-year subscription to the Research Hub and Proxima. Prosci lists PDUs for ACMP QEP credits, PMI and HRCI, which matters if you also hold a CCMP and need renewal credits.

Prosci does not publish prerequisites or renewal terms on that page. If you already know the ADKAR model and work in an organisation that uses the Prosci method, the programme is a natural fit. If your goal is a credential built on a published standard, it is a different thing. We discuss how the models relate in the guide for French-speaking Europe, where language availability often decides.

APMG: a short exam with a stated pass mark

Badge APMG Change Management Practitioner

APMG suits you if you want a short exam with a stated pass mark, since Foundation requires 25 of 50 and Practitioner 40 of 80 on 7 October 2026.

The syllabus was developed with the Change Management Institute and its CMBoK. Foundation is a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions in 40 minutes, usually after a three-day course, and it does not expire. Practitioner is an open-book scenario exam of 80 questions in 2 h 30, usually after a two-day course. Training happens through Accredited Training Organisations, so the course price depends on the trainer: The Knowledge Academy listed a Foundation and Practitioner package at £3,795 for five days.

The Practitioner exam bundle was £336 and the exam alone usually £448. The Foundation price was not published. As a fixed point, the ACMP publishes no CCMP pass mark, which makes APMG the more transparent of the two on that one point.

Can you combine them?

Yes, and a reasonable order is a QEP course first, then the CCMP, with a Prosci or APMG programme added if your employer asks for it.

A QEP course prepares the CCMP and counts toward the 21 hours. A Prosci programme lists ACMP QEP credits among its PDUs, so it may count toward CCMP renewal; confirm with the ACMP. For a first credential with three years of experience, the CCMP is the one we would aim for, because the experience rules also check what you have actually done. We say this as the authors of a QEP course.

If you are comparing providers for the 21 hours, the ranking of change management certifications sets out the criteria, and our own option is the self-paced CCMP exam prep course, a 21-hour QEP course (code Q000607) with 45 modules and one year of access. It carries a 14-day money-back guarantee, and Trustpilot showed 4.7 out of 5 from 39 reviews on 7 October 2026.

Next step: check the registry at acmp.learningbuilder.com for the hours and language you need, then compare the price of the training with the ACMP application fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to get CCMP certified?

On 7 October 2026, the ACMP application fee is US$595 for members and US$795 for non-members, exam included. Add the 21 hours of instructor-led training the ACMP requires: Leanova Academy’s QEP course costs US$595 self-paced or US$795 live online. A complete route therefore starts around US$1,190, before any ACMP membership and an optional US$95 practice exam.

How much is the Prosci change management certification?

Prosci published its Change Management Certification Program at US$4,500 online and US$4,850 in person on 7 October 2026, for a three-day programme. It leads to the Prosci Certified Change Practitioner credential, a course credential, whereas the CCMP is awarded by the ACMP after an exam. Prosci does not publish regional prices on its public pages; local offices quote them on request.

Is the Prosci certification worth it compared with the CCMP?

It depends on what you need to prove. Prosci teaches one methodology (ADKAR) in three days and gives a course credential recognised in organisations that use that method. The CCMP tests the ACMP Standard in a 150-question exam, requires three or five years of experience and is renewed with 60 PDUs every three years. Many practitioners do both; Prosci training also counts toward the CCMP’s 21 hours.

What is the best change management certification?

For a credential with a public standard and an independent exam, the CCMP from the ACMP is the reference, with the MCMP as its master level. For a method-driven organisation, Prosci; for the UK and European public sector, APMG Foundation and Practitioner; for a members’ accreditation on portfolio, the CMI. Without the experience yet, a 21-hour QEP certificate course such as LCeX-Professional gives the training hours that count later.
